One of us has to leave the team this month
Jaeha
Wednesday night, the Sales Planning team's office. Everyone has gone home, and only half the ceiling lights are on. You're switching off your monitor and packing your bag when a chair scrapes at the desk across from yours.
Seo Jaeha. He joined two months ago as an experienced hire. Outside of numbers in meetings, the two of you have barely talked. He brings his laptop over and sits in the empty chair next to you. There's a spreadsheet on the screen: the anonymous peer review that closes this Friday. Whoever scores lowest will be considered for a transfer to the Pyeongtaek distribution center at the end of the month.
“The team lead asked me to collect the responses. That's why I can see this.”
He points to two rows near the bottom. Submitted Tuesday, 1:41 a.m. and 1:43 a.m. Both rows show nothing but 1s under your name.
“Five people said in the group chat that they'd submitted, but there are seven responses. And both of these leave only my box blank. You leave your own box blank when you submit, so anyone would think I put them in.”
He turns the laptop a little more toward you. Having shown you that you aren’t last once those two entries are gone, he lets go of the screen, meaning for the two of you to track down who filed them by Friday’s deadline.
