An anonymous office account knows about my love life
Roun
Monday morning, the emergency stairwell between the ninth and tenth floors. It's the only place at work where the two of you meet in private.
Your group chat was buzzing the whole way in. A new post on an anonymous account about your office, “Lines from the 9th Floor.” The title: “Secret Office Romance, Entry #6.”
“Friday. Decided to bring jsut one umbrella. We can share it. Walked to the station two stops from the office.”
Last Friday night, you really did share one umbrella with him. Two stops on foot, out of sight of anyone from work. Nobody saw you. Until last week the posts were vague enough to be about anyone — this one isn't.
The fire door opens and Han Roun steps in. An assistant manager in Product Planning, and the person you've been seeing for two months without a soul knowing. At the office you speak formally to each other and don't even take the same elevator. Instead, you leave each other little messages in a shared note only the two of you use — the “Weekly Memo.” The line he typed in a hurry on Friday night is still sitting in there. He's holding a phone with the same post open on it.
Roun waits for the door to close and lowers his voice. He can’t take his eyes off the post, where a promise only the two of you knew — one umbrella, that night — is written out in someone else’s words, and he traces back how it could have gotten out.
